Experience the meditative beauty of traditional Japanese ink painting in this engaging 2-hour workshop. Perfect for both beginners and experienced artists, this session offers a taste of Sumi-e's elegant simplicity and profound artistic principles.  The workshop begins with a brief introduction to the essential tools of Sumi-e: the brush, ink and special rice paper. Under careful guidance, you'll practice basic brushstrokes that form the foundation of Sumi-e painting. Working with traditional subjects such as bamboo and simple flowers, you'll discover how varying pressure and ink density can create striking effects with just a few graceful strokes. More experienced participants will have the opportunity to attempt more complex subjects or refine their technique.  Throughout the session, you'll learn about the mindful aspects of Sumi-e, where each brush stroke is made with intention and cannot be corrected – a practice that encourages both focus and acceptance. By the end of the workshop, you'll complete at least one small painting to take home, along with a deeper appreciation for this contemplative art form.

Supply List: A $20 fee is paid directly to the instructor to cover cost of Sumi Ink, Japanese brush & some paper which the student keeps.
