CL644 Exploring Forms with Glenn Woods

Intermediate Advanced

This class is open to intermediate and advanced students who want to explore forms of their choice. I encourage you to bring photos or sketches of forms you wish to explore and we can go from there. Weeks 1 through 4 will be dedicated to throwing, trimming, and preparing your pieces for the glaze night, which will be on week 5. The glazes we will use in this class will be crystalline glazes. We will discuss methods of glaze application and preparing your bisque pieces for the crystalline glaze firing, we will also go over firing schedules and what happens during the firing at the various temperatures we use to grow the crystals. Week 5 will be dedicated to glazing and loading the kiln. Week 6 will be dedicated to removing the crystalline pieces from their risers and finishing the bottoms with diamond grinding discs. This session will conclude with a critique and discussion session reviewing glaze results - what worked well and what we should avoid in the future.
