W-PT373 Zen Brush Art and Meditation Workshop with Noriko Kuehn
Workshop
Tuition: $80
All Levels welcome!
Join a unique workshop that weaves together Zen meditation and intuitive brush practice. This session invites participants of all experience levels to explore the intersection of mindfulness and artistic expression. The workshop opens with a gentle guided meditation to cultivate present-moment awareness and release creative tension. You'll then learn to hold the brush with mindful intention, discovering how your breath and body movement naturally influence each stroke on the paper.
Moving beyond traditional rules and expectations, you'll experiment with spontaneous mark-making inspired by Zen artists. Through simple exercises that combine meditation and movement, you'll create abstract expressions that reflect your inner state. The emphasis is not on producing perfect artwork, but on developing a deeper connection between mind, body, and brush. You'll learn about the Zen concepts of mushin (empty mind) and shoshin (beginner's mind), experiencing how these principles can transform your approach to both art and daily life.
We'll practice letting go of self-judgment while exploring the beauty of imperfection and happy accidents. The session concludes with a period of silent practice where you'll create a final piece, followed by optional sharing and reflection. You'll leave with your artwork and practical techniques for continuing this contemplative practice at home.
No prior experience in meditation or art is necessary – simply bring an open mind and willingness to explore.
Supply List: A $20 fee is paid directly to the instructor to cover cost of Sumi Ink, Japanese brush & some paper which the student keeps.
